We are a self-help support group for parents, grandparents and siblings who have suffered the death of a child or children at any age from any cause. We charge no dues or fees. Our support group meeting is on the third Thursday of each month at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We are not affiliated with the church, however, they have very generously provided us with a meeting room and storage space for our supplies (at no charge) for more than 20 years. Our support group meetings are open to all bereaved parents, grandparents, siblings and are planned to be a source of comfort and support. Please regard this as a safe time and place to come and be with those who know that grief never disappears although it does lessen. Lending Library We maintain a lending library of books and tapes on topics relevant to grieving the death of a child. These materials are for all bereaved family members to use and are available for review and checking out at our monthly support group meetings. You may find donating a book to our library on a birthday, anniversary or holiday is a rewarding way to remember your child. Special Gatherings Butterfly Release Event is every August. Date and location to be determined. We have a potluck picnic. Everyone is given a butterfly to release while special music is played. Worldwide Candle Lighting The Worldwide Candle Lighting was started by The Compassionate Friends and it is their gift to the grieving community. Held annually the second Sunday in December, The Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7pm local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor children in a way that transcends all boundaries for the whole grieving community in each time zone. A potluck dinner is served and there is a special candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of our children. Call 208-773-5684 for time and place. Funding Love gifts allow us to offer resources (the newsletter, books, brochures and pamphlets) to assist bereaved parents and siblings. They also allow us to provide information to care professionals and others who impact the lives and feelings of the bereaved. Love Gifts are just that, Gifts. They are not required, but are very helpful and very much appreciated. Donations are tax deductible under IRS provisions of 501 ( c) (3), non-profit.
